Obituaries act as quiet reminders of the finite nature of our lives. Yet, for those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend, an obituary means so much more. It is a bittersweet reminder of all we’ve lost, but it can also help us to remember all we enjoyed while they were alive. If you have recently lost someone you love, we hope that you will accept our condolences.

Obituary For Kathryn Sue Gregory
Kathryn Sue Gregory, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on May 23, 2021 at the age of 79 in Bakersfield, CA.
Katy was born to Mary LouVena and William Everett Bellamy on December 12, 1941 in Versailles, Missouri. She grew up on a farm with her six siblings and hard-working parents. She met her childhood friend, Elaine Stephens, at Rural School #36 and the two remained lifelong friends and pen-pals. She married her first husband, Russell Gash, in 1958 before moving to California, where their three children were born. Many happy memories were made as a family in Bakersfield. After their divorce in the early 1970s, she returned to Missouri and eventually met the love of her life, Larry Gregory. They married and Katy was once again surrounded by lots of siblings that welcomed her into the Gregory family. The two of them loved traveling the country while Larry worked as an interstate truck driver and Katy rode along as his navigator. After Larry’s retirement, they lived in a little cabin on the Lake of the Ozarks, spending their days fishing, gardening, quilting and canning vegetables. Katy and Larry moved back to California in 2003 to be closer to family. Around this time, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and maintained a positive attitude despite the challenges she faced. Because of her diagnosis, she required extra help and the family will always be grateful to Cassie Schulte for the aid and companionship she provided to Katy. Katy’s grandkids will always remember the delicious homemade meals, breads, and baked goods eaten around her table. She will be missed for her witty comments, dry humor, and that little sparkle in her eye.
Katy is survived by her children, Steve Gash, Kevin Gash (Andrea), and Kristel Renick (Steve); brother Jim Bellamy (Susan); grandchildren Stephen, Brandy, Breanna (Dustin), Kara (Brad), Kyle, Hannah (Isaac), and Maddison (Andrew); as well as eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Larry Gregory, her brothers Bob and Bill and her sisters Maxine, Frieda, and Barbara.
A memorial service will be held in Katy’s honor at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on Friday, June 25th, 2021 at 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Katy’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
